Massage Therapy for Tight Muscles

Welcome to your Beachside massage therapy home massage awareness training on the many reasons why your muscles may be tight and sore.

Many people are still unaware of the deeper reasons why their muscles may be tight.   They are most likely still disconnected from their bodies and having a deeper relationship with it.  The way their body gets attention is usually with pain and soreness.  

Because we live in a society that in general does not teach people how to create powerful inner relationships with the body many times people are left a bit in the dark about how to heal themselves and treat their bodies like the temples that they are.

This is why I am providing this Redding massage therapy mini-course on teaching people that tight muscles can be more than what is commonly known about.

Most people relate to their tight muscles from the mind set of “I am stressed or I am working hard or I hurt myself” and that is why their muscles are tight and sore.  These reasons can for sure be causes of tight muscles.  They then want to have their muscles release and relaxed with massage therapy.  And massage therapy can sometimes help with the pain relief and relaxation.

Yet many times the tight sore muscles will come back quickly even after an excellent deep tissue massage or sports massage.   This is when I have people wondering why.  I explain to many people that that are a myriad of reasons why muscles can be tight and one massage may not change that.  I explain to many people that there may be some homework to do in terms of getting and keeping their body and muscles in state of consistent relaxation.   

The many reasons why muscles are tight and sore:

  • Tension from being overworked- Same motion everyday over and over again makes muscles overworked and tight and sore.
  • Tension from improper ergonomics(how you sit, stand move etc)- Computer work, standing, running, forward shoulders, over rotation and more.
  • Muscles weakness-  Lack of muscle exercise creates weakness and thus created little tight spots(trigger points) that are calling out for strengthening attention.
  • Magnesium deficiency-This is a very BIG reason why muscles are tight and sore.  Magnesium is the mineral needed for muscle relaxation.   A high majority of people are deficient in this mineral and thus have tight sore muscles that no amount of deep tissue massage can relieve. Chronic stress and high amounts of caffeine can also pull magnesium out of the body.
  • Muscle imbalance– Imbalance in one area of the body that cause stress and tension in muscles in another area of the body.
  • Past physical trauma– Trauma that was not originally treated and healed and thus scar tissue and adhesions create pain and soreness.
  • Emotional trauma– Emotional trauma that has not been healed or released. Our muscles carry cellular memory of past emotional trauma and if it not processed and released in a healthy manner.  That trauma can be stored in the muscles creating pain and soreness until that energetic trauma is released in healthy manner.
  • Chronic emotional stress- The mind is not separate from the body so chronic emotional stress can and does manifest into pain and soreness in the muscles.

The good news is that there are ways to heal, re-train and re-align your muscles to help them stay relaxed and pain free for longer periods of time!

More Ways To Help Tight Sore Muscles

  • Massage- I would not be a good  massage therapist if I did not promote massage.  Get regular massage!  Massage therapy is one tool needed for consistent tension relief and pain relief. But most people need more tools.  Also, if you have past physical trauma like injuries and car accidents it’ s best to work with a massage therapist who has experience in treating that(like me).  🙂

  • More magnesium-Yep increase it! Start at 400mg a day and work your way up from there.  Needs to be a good digestible version. Contact me to find out the best kind of magnesium to take.

  • Exercise- Exercise, including weightlifting helps strengthen muscles and keeps them being able to support the body and it’s bones and frame.

  • Limit caffeine intake- This while help lessen the chances of it being pulled from your body.

  • Vitamin D-3-  Vitamin D-3 helps magnesium uptake into the body, so low levels of vitamin D-3 means lower levels of magnesium.
    Yoga/meditation- Yoga is great for flexibility and thus pain relief and soreness. Meditation and yoga are both great for inner stress relief. When the mind is relaxed and centered it gives the muscles a chance to be that way too.
